TM LANDSAT data for monitoring vegetation in burned areas [Sardinia]

anglais. In this paper a method based on LANDSAT TM data is described in order to monitor the vegetation growth on a large burned area in northern Sardinia. In the studied area five different vegetational class characteristics of the Mediterranean region are described with green biomass increasing from the herbaceous to the arbustive and arboreal formations. For each class the mean values of two normalized indexes, NDVI (TM 4 - TM 3)/(TM 4 + TM 3) and II (TM 4 - TM 5)/(TM 4 + TM 5) were calculated. Nel presente lavoro e' stato fatto un primo tentativo di monitoraggio con dati LANDSAT TM della ripresa vegetativa in un'area della Sardegna nord-occidentale interessata nel 1989 da un incendio di dimensioni straordinarie. Nell'area in esame sono state individuate cinque tipologie vegetazionali caratteristiche della regione mediterranea caratterizzate da biomassa crescente passando dalle formazioni erbacee a quelle arbustive e arboree. Per ognuna di esse sono stati calcolati i valori medi di due indici normalizzati, NDVI (TM 4 - TM 3)/(TM 4 + TM 3) ed il II (TM 4 - TM 5)/(TM 4 + TM 5). Considerando la maggiore efficacia dell'indice infrarosso II nel discriminare le tipologie identificate, quest'ultimo e' stato scelto per produrre un documento cartografico che rappresentasse lo stato della vegetazione nell'area percorsa dal fuoco prima e dopo l'incendio
