SummerPack is a sheep management package aimed at assisting farmers with the adjustment of stocking rate and supplementary feeding to dry feed on offer (annual pastures or stubbles) over the summer-autumn period. Using information on the quantity and quality of feed on offer and on sheep liveweight at the beginning of summer, SummerPack makes a prediction through time of liveweights till the next autumn break. Sheep can be fed different levels of supplements and the stocking rate can be changed during the simulation. By using a range of values as inputs, a number of management decisions can be attained to suit the objectives and the constraints of the farmer. The rate and the time of feeding can be determined in order to maintain sheep liveweights above a certain level. Stocking rate and supplementary feeding can be adjusted to prevent an excessive decline in the amount of dry matter attached to the ground, creating potential erosion problems.
