The adaptation in central Chile of a new generation of soybean genotypes

Sixty five soybeans genotypes of US origin, 21 belonging to maturity group (MG) 1,20 to MG II and 24 to MG III, have been analyzed when planted in spring at Pirque, Chile. Evaluations were made on the agronomic characters of mature plant height, reaction to lodging, days from planting to maturity, grain moisture at harvest and yield adjusted to 8% moisture, and the industrial characters of oil and protein content expressed on a dry matter basis. Oil and protein yield were also calculated. Results showed that in general genotypes were well adapted to the location. However, planted in spring, the full season material (MG III) yielded better than earlier genotypes (MG I and II). There were no large variations in oil and protein content associated to MG, although the material varied within MG. The mean yield of genotypes in MG I, II and III was 2304, 2566 and 3817 kg/ha-1, respectively, The mean oil of yield of genotypes in MG I, II and II was 428, 477 and 676 kg/ha-1, respectively, and the mean protein yield from these MG was 831, 869 and 1400 kg/ha-1, respectively
