[Effect of soil water surface depth on growth and yield of some lines/varieties of soybean intercropped with corn]

Soil water surface depth effect on soil moisture and palawija crop growth. The experiments were conducted at Citayam Sub Station in early wet season 1989/90 and dry season 1990. Intercropping between corn and soybeans was applied in three soil water surface depth of 5-10 cm, 20-25 cm and 40-45 cm respectively. Six lines or varieties of soybean intercropped with corn were treated as sub-sub plot. The experiment are conducted in split-split plot design with three replications. The experiments showed that the treatment of 0-5 cm soil water surface depth caused the crops growth, they were quiet stunted and yellowing especially in dry season 1990 at early growth stage. The rainfall at early dry season 1990 was higher than at early wet season 1989/1990. The treatments of 20-25 cm and 0-5 cm soil water surface depth were favourable for soybean especially in wet season 1989/1990. In contrast to corn the treatment of 40-45 cm soil water surface depth was the most favourable for corn particularly in dry season 1990. Soybean and corn have different condition for each growth. At early stage about 0-10 days after planting soybean seedling needed about moist soil condition and gradually increased with age until full filling pod stage. Among the lines or varieties of soybean. Tidar and B3342 look suitable for intercropping with corn at any treatments of soil water surface depth.
