Marketing of Swan Valley table grapes: strategies for improvement
1986
Domestic consumption of table grapes in Western Australia accounts for 93 percent of total production; they are sold wholesale through the Perth metropolitan Markets, direct to buyers, and direct to growers. The potential size of the domestic market will depend on: trends in fruit consumption; relative cost and availability of alternative fruits; changes in quarantine restrictions; and the extension of the availability of table grapes outside the current grape season. The competitive advantage previously experienced by W.A. in export to South East Asian markets has been eroded by technological developments in other states and the growth of the domestic market. Export marketing strategies will depend on the adoption of a predominantly non-regulatory approach based on the concept of product differentiation.
