Serological detection of Pseudomonas solanacearum by ELISA. [Conference paper]

By comparison with many assays for the detection of P. solanacearum, the Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) does not require sophisticated equipment, is relatively inexpensive, requires the minimum of training and may be readily adapted for use in developing countries in the tropics. An ELISA has been developed that may be used to detect the fungus in plant and soil samples. It has been optimised for sensitivity, and can routinely detect bacterial levels as low as 10,000 cfu per mL. The assay at present uses polyclonal antibodies but recent advances in the production of monoclonal specific antibodies will allow them to be used in future.
