Effects of plantation and postharvest management factors on shelf life of 'Williams' banana. [Poster paper]

Seberry, J.A. | Harris, D.R. (New South Wales Agriculture, Gosford (Australia). Horticulture Research and Advisory Station)
Evaluation of 158 grower lines from New South Wales and 56 from Queensland showed that from late autumn through to early spring, there were differences in keeping quality of Williams bananas from the 2 States, but these did not appear to be consistent from year to year. There were no consistent correlations between mineral elements determined in peel and pulp of the fruit and the mean shelf life score. New South Wales bananas harvested in the spring months were generally of poorer quality than comparable fruit from northern Queensland.
