The waste waters discharged from certain economic activities have a high organic pollutants content. In the present day outlook these waters are collected together with the less polluted waste waters within the industrial unit, or are diluted with non-polluted waters and finally introduced into the treatment plant. The present paper demonstrates that when the pollutants contained in high organic load waste waters are biodegradable, it is more advantageous that they be treated as such (without dilution) through two methods, namely: high load activated sludge aerobic biological treatment and contact anaerobic biological treatment. The paper presents both the theoretical bases of the two methods and the practical examples.
