An assessment of the insect and mite pests and their management in NSW North coast nurseries [New South Wales]
1993
Macdonald, J.A. (New South Wales Agriculture, Wollongbar (Australia))
Reports on an investigation conducted among North coast nurserymen into pests and pest management in the industry. A total of 22 pests were recorded during the survey including 3 mites, 15 insects and 4 non-arthropods. Survey results indicate that the industry in the area is currently dependent on pesticides for the management of a range of problems. Nursery operators utilised pesticides strategically rather than on a programmed basis. Results also indicate that there is a lack of biological control information and technologies for use in an IPM system for crop categories in the nursery industry, and research into and development of biological control systems for the industry are necessary.
