Laboratory and field studies were carried out on the efficacy of synthetic pyrethroids (SPs) against sheep body louse Damalinia ovis using standardised dipping tests on sheep. Field and laboratory trials with backline applications and jetting treatments were also undertaken. The results of the experiments, various factors affecting the development of resistance, the mode of action of the chemicals and strategies for efficient lice control and for the prevention of increased resistance are discussed.
