Reports on the research and development program to counter salinity and soil degradation in the Murray Valley, New South Wales. This is due largely to inappropriate or inefficient irrigation techniques and results in crop production losses in excess of 50 million dollars per year. The report is presented in 8 sub-projects covering soil water, hydrology, bedfarming, permanent bedcropping, gypsum soil amendments, effects of landforming, economics of laser landforming for rice farming, and survey of the use of advanced irrigation technology by rice farmers.
