Effect of three sources of potassium fertilizer at several rates on growth and yield of shallot

The effect of KCl, K2SO4 and K2Mg(SO4)2 applied at different rates was studied on shallot at lowland, Brebes-Central Java with alluvial soil type in the dry season in 1989. The experiment was executed with three different sources of potassium i.e. potassium chloride, potassium sulphate and potassium magnesium sulphate. Potassium fertilizers were applied at rates of 0, 50 and 100 kg/ha K20 along with a top dressing of 180 kg/ha N at 10, 20 and 30 days after planting plus basic application of 100 kg/ha P2O5 one day before planting. Shallot growth data revealed that the application of potassium chloride at the rate of 50 kg/ha K20 gave the best growth expressed as best in case of plant height at 8 weeks after transplanting. A significant increase in the number of splits at all stages was found for potassium sulphate. The three sources of potassium had no effect on the yield of bulbs per plot
