Development of biotechnological research capabilities for crop improvement and food security

This paper outlines the prospect of developing a biotechnological capabilities at Lumle Agricultural Research Centre (LARC) in the context of lack of addressing suitable varieties of arable and horticultural crops to suit the specific environments and/or farmers need and the limited scope of conventional techniques to tackle these constraints. The advantages of using most proven applied biotechnological techniques are discussed.
