A comparative study was conducted with two monovoltinic races of Japonese origin, two of Chinese origin and with some of their crosses. The performances of some basic quantitative characters were investigated in the spring and summer-autumn crops. It was found that in case of rearing in the summer-autumn period caterpillar development was longer, fertility-lower, fibroin content in the silk shells-higher. A sex and race differentiation was observed. The hypothesis proposed as a result of the observations gives grounds for a continuation of the investigation in this direction.
