The paper contains evaluation of timber utilization for the manufacture of wood products in Slovakia. The evaluation is based on the production capacity of forests taking into account exploitation by felling and manufacture of raw timber assortments, and the manufacture basic products of primary and subsequent wood processing. A methodology of determining the extent of raw timber utilization by its processing is outlined. The methodical procedure has been tested by practical applications in alternative use. The first alternative comprises the extent of raw timber utilization for mechanical wood processing (sawlogs, veneer sheets and plywood, wood-based panels), the alternative of chemical processing relies on the manufacture of wood pulp as a primary product. The consumption of waste paper is also taken into account in the other alternative, while chemical processing involves the manufacture of paper+paperboard. Differences in the use of both alternatives, possibilities of their application and utilization are discussed.
