Moving towards sustainable management: A discussion of issues and possible directions for New Brunswick's private woodlot sector
1996
Vasiliauskas, K.
Sustainable management on private woodlots can only be achieved through a major restructuring of the entire private woodlot sector. The course lies through the management of people much more than the management of forests. The private woodlot sector, which is already past the logging saturation point, is plagued with a growing number of independent logging contractors, many of who have been supplanted from Crown land and Industrial land operations by the introduction of mechanical harvesters. The key is: a. to develop a marketing system that will be confined to sustainable harvest levels and as such, limit the number of independent contractors operating within the sector and b. the development and implementation of regional harvesting standards
