Forest act and land use planning (in Slovenia)
1996
Golob, S. (Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Ljubljana (Slovenia))
The paper discusses provisions of the Forest Act and of the Forest Development Program of Slovenia that concern land use planning. With the adoption of both acts the Republic of Slovenia has shown how seriously it is aware of the importance of forests for nature conservation and healthy environment. In future forest functions maps should be prepared based on thorough evaluation of the forest land that will be of the important bases for the process of land use planning. The maps will serve for the declaration of protection forests and the forests with a special purpose as well as for the determination of vulnerability of forests and forest land. The evaluated forest functions are meant to be the main criterion for the potential clearing of forests for other purposes. The possible definitions of the forest functions are proposed that partly incorporate the main criteria for their evaluation.
