A study with different hemp seed (Cannabis sativa L.) oils was carried out with the varieties Fedora 19, Secuieni 1 (low delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol [THC] content), and "Swissmix" (variety mixture with high THC content), which were produced and marketed in Switzerland. The results show that the THC content of "Swissmix" oil exceeded several times the threshold value set by the Swiss food legislation. Hemp seed oils contained about 55 % linoleic, 20 % alpha-linolenic, 12 % oleic, 6 % palmitic, 2 % stearic, and 1.5 % gamma-linolenic acid. One important difference between the varieties was that "Swissmix" oil contained 4 % more alpha-linolenic acid. In contrast, the content of gamma-linolenic was lower in "Swissmix". Hemp oil has excellent food characteristics. The market needs an impeccable, healthy, and low-THC oil
