Studies were performed on a reproducing population of silver bream (white bream) Blicca bjoerkna. The population was characterised by late maturation and good growth rate. Average absolute fecundity (expressed as the number of oocytes of trophoplasmatic growth) was 66.8 x 10** (3), and 33 % of the females were characterised by the synchronic development of the oocytes of trophoplasmatic growth (one egg batch only), with a high reserve of the oocytes of protoplasmatic growth in the ovaries (215.6 to 391.3 x 10** (3)). Sixty-seven % of the females showed asynchronic development and a twice lower reserve of protoplasmatic ones. Silver bream ovaries showing asynchronic oocyte development contained maturing oocytes of trophoplasmatic growth until the end of June, although their maturing intensity and numbers decreased from 75 x 10** (3) to 0.3 x 10** (3).
