Forest in the vicinity of cities - is forestry's message coming across?
1998
Otto, H.J.
The paper deals with the problems of publicizing forest activities. Modern life in larges cities is characterized by positive and negative factors. Urban life is comfortable, civilized, cultivated, progressive and dynamic. But it is also characterized by stress, aggressivity and many psychological problems. A major factor is the separation from natural processes and the increasingly indirect information, transmitted by the medias. The multiple, overwhelming, but inprecise or partially given information and the lack of personal experience leads to the misunderstanding of forester's activities. An analysis of animosities against different forest activities is given. The solution of the problem is to be found in a more media-effective publicizing of forest management, which would not only improve the contact with the press, but would also assist in developing direct approaches to citizens and their psychological problems.
