Multidisciplinary research activities related to technology development and on-farm testing of sheep production by smallholder farmers participating in the Outreach Pilot Project in North Sumatra has been on-going for more than six years. One activity to overcome the internal parasite problem of sheep was to set up an animal health delivery network organized by the local livestock service, animal health product wholesalers and the research station for small ruminant production Sei Putih, to make anthelmintics available to farmers. The purpose of this paper is to describe the most effective channel for distribution of anthelmintics to smallholders in terms of cost, total revenue and farmer response. In general, the findings from the evaluation of three market channels (extension, trader and wholesaler) indicated that the extension worker was a more effective channel than the rest in terms of cost. However, the establishment of farmer associations is strongly recommended in order to increase the purchasing power of farmers for products needed in large quantities
