A research has been conducted at the Research Station of Faculty of Agriculture, University of Syiah Kuala, Banda Aceh, since August 1995 until December 1995. This research was carried out to investigate the performance of growth and yield of soybean as the effect of giving various levels of dosages and depths of incorporation of Metolachlor herbicide. Three were five levels of dosages (0.0; 0.6; 1.2; 1.8; and 2,4 kg a.i ha-1) and three were levels of depths of incorporation of herbicide (0; 5; and 10 cm). The treatments were assigned in Completely Randomized Design with Factorial manner. The result showed that there was an interaction between dosages and depth of incorporation of Metolachlor herbicide to number of pods plant-1, the number of seeds plant-1, the dry weight of seeds plant-1, as well as the dry weight of grasses and broad leaves weeds. At dosage of 1.2 kg a.i. ha-1 Metolachlor herbicide - depth of incorporation of 10 cm- increased the yield and the yield components of soybean, decreased the dry weight of weeds. This treatment did not cause phytotoxicity
