The paper deals with the dilemmas, arising with the ever faster forest spreading in the karst landscape in the Pivka basin and in the broader Kras/Karst plateau area. Man, present since the older stone, triggered degradation processes in the primeval vegetation. Intensive afforestations began in the past century and with spreading of natural forest transformed image of the Kras/Karst landscape. Some suggestions are presented for the future cultural landscape development which should be based on ecosystem principles
