Pelagic larvae of zander (Stizostedion lucioperca) were quantitatively studied in the Lipno Reservoir in 1995-1997. The highest densities of larvae were regularly found during the first week of June. At that time they formed 70-90 % of the ichtyoplankton assemblage on a average. Their length was 6-12 mm in the main body of the reservoir, significantly larger specimens (7-17 mm) were at the same time found in the shallow Olsinska Bay. The larvae inhabited the whole epilimnetic layer depending on thermal stratification. A minimal estimate of the total number of larvae in the surface layer (0-3 m) of the whole reservoir was performed in 1995 and 1997 years. The values between 111-225 millions confirm a sufficient recruitment of zander larvae from natural spawning. Stocking of zander younger than 1+ is ineffective in the Lipno Reservoir.
