The experiment was conducted in laboratory and greenhouse of MORIF (Maros Research Institute for Food Crops) from October 1993 to January 1994. The objective of the experiment was to study the effect of heating treatment on the transmission rate of PStV through the seeds in several temperature, moisture contents, and duration periods of heating. Two rates of temperatures (50 and 60 deg. C), three rates of moisture content of the seeds (9, 12, and 15 percent), and three periods of heat treatment (2, 4, and 6 hours) were carried out using completely randomized block design, with three replications. Two hundred seeds were exposed in each treatment. The rates of transmission through the seeds were evaluated using serological method and plant symptom, while germination percentage of the seeds were recorded using sand substrat. The results of experiment indicated that heating of the seeds at 50 deg. C for 2 to 4 hours, at 9 to 12 percent moisture content gave a good result on the PStV activities (all seeds gave negative results using serological test), the germination percentage of the seeds were remained high (80 to 96 percent)
