Feeding of pollen beetle on yellow mustard

In this experiment the observations concerning the numbers and feeding of pollen beetle were carried out in 1992-94. In one part of the field the pest was controlled several times every year. The second part was not treated by any insecticide. The authors found that Meligethes aeneus F. very rarely destroyed flower pistils and did not reduce the number of mustard pods on untreated field during three years of observation. Feeding of the pest also did not reduce the yield and quality of seeds. The results of our study clearly show the lack of the insect's harmfulness. Therefore the present recomendations of the pollen beetle control on mustard are inappropriate and require a new elaboration
