Sensory properties of fruits of thirty four peach cultivars and two nectarine cultivars naturally infected with plum pox virus (PPV) were evaluated. Relative concentration of PPV in flowers, intensity of virus symptoms in leaves and fruits and percentage of symptomatic fruits were determined. On the basis of these results cultivars of peaches were divided into four groups and classified as medium resistant, tolerant, medium susceptible and very susceptible to PPV. None of peach cultivars was immune or very resistant. These cultivars are supposed to be important sources of virus infection because of higher content of the virus in plant tissues. Peach cultivars Candor, Envoy, Favorita Morettini 3, Flamencrest, Harcrest, Harmony, Maycrest, Spring Lady, Triestina and Velvet were classified to be medium resistant to PPV. Cultivars Envoy and Favorita Morettini 3 which appeared in the list of cultivars recommended in the Czech Republic were found to be suitable for planting in areas where plum pox virus is distributed.
