anglais. This paper characterizes the climate of the Andes, branch located south of Lara state, Venezuela. To achieve this goal, the information of the study area and surrounding areas to develop climate maps. The results characterize the wather of the zone (spatially and temporally) and demostrate the peculiarity of the submontainous and mountainous ecosystems of the high areas in Lara state. It was observed that orography of this branch of the Andes produces well distinguished climatic patterns different to those of the rest of the country.

Se realizo un estudio del clima del area que corresponde a la zona montanosa andina localizada al sur del estado Lara en la region Centro Occidental de Venezuela mediante la recopilacion, sintesis y mapeo de la informacion del area de estudio y sus alrededores. Los resultados, ademas de permitir caracterizar el clima de la zona estudiada (espacial y temporalmente), puso de manifiesto la particularidad de los ecosistemas submontanos y montanos en la zona alta de Lara. Asimismo, se pudo apreciar la importancia de la orografia para definir patrones climaticos bien diferentes al resto de Venezuela.
