Evaluation of 20 white corn hybrids at Santa Barbara, Monagas State Venezuela | Evaluacion de 20 hibridos de maiz blanco (Zea Mays L.) en Santa Barbara, Estado Monagas

anglais. The experiment was installed durin the raining season of 1996 at the Santa Barbara Experimental Station, located at 9 degree 36 min N, 63 degree 37 min. W and 195 masl. Twenty white corn hybrids, included CENIAP-PB-8 as a control, were evaluated with the main purpuse of selecting those presenting the best behavoir and yield. A completely randomized block desing with four repetitions was utilized. The experimental plot consisted of two rows, 10 m long, separated 0.75 m with five plants per meter (66.667 plants per ha). There were no significant differences among 15 hybrids. The highest yield was produced by the hybrid C-580 with 4.019 kg per ha, followed by X-1405-TW and C-491, HIMECA-92-1 with a range of production between 3,065 and 3,371 kg per ha. The tester has the lower yield, but it was not statistically different to 10 hybrids. CB-HS-76, SELOARCA-98, SK-198 and D-4115 showed stalk lodging problems. espagnol; castillan. El experimento se instalo en el Campo Experimental Santa Barbara del FONAIAP, municipio Santa Barbara, ubicada 9 grados 36 min. N, 63 grados 37 min W, y a 195 msnm, durante la epoca de lluvia en 1996. Fueron evaluados 20 hibridos blancos de maiz, incluyendose como testigo al hibrido CENIAP-PB-8, con el objeto de seleccionar los de mejor adaptacion agronomica y productividad. Se utilizo el diseno estadistico de bloques completos al azar con cuatro repeticiones. La unidad experimental la constituyo una parcela de dos hileras de 10 m de longitud, separadas a 0,75 m, con una densidad de cinco plantas por metro lineal (66.67 plantas por ha). De los 20 hibridos evaluados, se destaco (P mas o menos 0,05) el C-580 con 4.019 kg por ha, otros como: X-1405-TW, C-491 e HIMECA 92-1 presentaron buen conportamiento, con rendimientos que oscilaron entre 3.065 a 3.371 kg por ha. El testigo CENIAP-PB-8, fue superado, aunque no significativamente, por 10 de los hibridos evaluados.Los hibridos CB-HS-76, SEFLOARCA-98, SK-198 y D-4115, presentaron problemas con acame de tallo. Asimismo, no se observaron problemas de cobertura de mazorca.
