The efficacy of HPLC and microbiological diffusion methods for the detection of residues in edible tissues of a calf and in eggs laid by hens after experimental administration of oxytetracycline was compared. The most sensitive test microorganism was Bacillus subtilis (pH of agar medium 6.0), but, generally, the sensitivity of the microbiological methods was insufficient. Oxytetracycline residues were detected by HPLC in all the samples investigated.
