Two-factorial small-plot trial with sainfoin (Onobrychis sativa) cv. Makedonka was carried out on slightly calcareous chernozem. Spacing (150 and 250 mm) and seeding rates ( 120, 140, 160, and 180 kg.ha-l, i.e. single-seed fruits/pods) were the factors A and B. The green forage yield, dry matter and crude protein contents were determined. Statistically significant coefficient of correlation was found between the seeding rate and green forage yield. The smallest yield was obtained with the seeding rate of 120 kg.ha-l. These results support the use of the 140 kg.ha-l seeding rate and 250 mm. The crude protein yields exhibited a similar trend as green mass yields.
