Ecological and economical effects of different tillage systems

Considering soil biology, earthworm populations on the selected experimental sities increased rapidly on the no-till plots. Conventional and conservation tillages show varied development with tendencies of higher populations with less tillage activity. The content of nitrate on no-till fields show least variation in values. Conventionally tilled fields present highest variation. Yields relations prove farmers to be still most experienced in conventional tillage, but conservation tillage also reached satisfying results. Hence, yields achieved with no-tillage were lower but with increasing farmers experimence equal yields should be achieved. Economical evaluation is based on the use of farmers private owned machinery for conventional and conservation tillage cropping systems. Concerning profits, conservation tillage presents clearly to be the superior tillage strategy
