From the second half of the 19th century up to the present time 600 macroinvertebrate taxa were found in the Vistula, the main Polish river. Most data concern Chironomidae (152 taxa), Oligochaeta (64), Trichoptera (57), Ephemeroptera (50), and Mollusca (50)
