Application of a method of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium balance for the assessment of water quality hazard of the non-point pollution

Pawlik-Dobrowolski, J. (Institute for Land and Grassland Farming, Falenty (Poland))
The paper presents methods and results of a study aimed at estimating water quality hazard of the non-point pollution and at elaborating indices of that hazard. Studies have demonstrated that the methods of pollutant balance allow for estimating only a potential risk, which does not always correlate with the real water pollution. Hazard indices, however, satisfactorily reflect a state of water pollution which permits to use them as a basis in programming actions to limit the non-point pollutants input to waters
