The paper presents the effect of different sources of energy (rapeseed oil, lard, fish oil, glucose) contained in the rations for sows on changes in their body weight during gestation and farrowing. Glucose should not be used as a source of energy for sows, as it increases their body weight losses per kg of litter weight gain - it stimulates milk production at the cost of the organism's reserves. The most beneficial changes in the body weight in high-in-pig and suckling sows may be achieved by increasing the content of good-quality plant or aminal fat in complete feed
