Effect of Cryptosporidium parvum infection on the patomorphological pattern of the alimentary tract, gastrointestinal microflora, haematological and biochemical indices in piglets

All the piglets infected with Cryptosporidium had diarrhoea. Cryptosporidium was present in the stomach, microvillus brush border of the jejunum, ileum and colon. The results of microbiological examination of the digestive tract showed an increased number of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, especially E. coli. The haematological examination showed a decreased haemoglobin level and number of erytrocytes, and an increased number of leukocytes. The biochemical parameters showed decreased activity of lipase, amylase, levels of glucose and cholesterol and incresed activity of alkaline phosphatase and lactic dehydrogenase
