Demand for inputs in the Greek fishery sector
1998
Karakitsiou, A.
Fishery still remains one of the most important economic sectors in Greece. This study focuses on the inshore and open sea fishery sectors of Greece and attempts to measure the substitution effects among the different inputs and to examine the effect of alternative policy schemes on the input demand. The main framework applied was the derived demand for inputs using a multiple input translog cost function. Given its special characteristics, the translog cost function provides a convenient framework for analyzing the Greek fisheries sector. Results indicated that there is a low responsiveness of Greek fishermen to the change of input prices. Cross price elasticities and elasticities of substitution demonstrated a number of substitution and complementarity relationships.
