Effect of substrate and irrigation on growth and yield of potted cultivation of Gerbera Jamesonii H. bolus
1995
Papadopoulou, E.
To investigate the performance and suitability of three inorganic, locally available substrates, perlite, pumice and polystyrene for soilless culture, gerbera plants of cvs. Fame, Rosabella, and Sunspot were cultivated in pots, under low 8 times/day and 16 times/day irrigation treatments. Crop yield and quality as well as gas exchange were measured. Plants grown in perlite under high irrigation differentiated the highest number of leaves with the largest area. Plants grown in perlite and pumice under low irrigation treatment produced a high number of flowers, however, plants grown in the same substrates under the high irrigation treatment produced flowers of better quality of stem length and flower head diameter.
