Effects of growth retardants and dormancy breaking chemicals on growth and development of red Raspberry cultivated under greenhouse conditions and of etiolation and rejunevation on Raspberry in vitro proliferation

The effect of three growth retardants cycocel, daminozide and paclobutrazol and two breaking dormancy chemicals potassium nitrate and cyanamide) on growth and development of Autumn Bliss primocane fruiting red raspberry, and the effect of explant type on the raspberry shoot proliferation and growth in vitro was studied. Cycocel, 500 ppm, applied to 45 cm high plants reduced the primicane height without reducing the number of nodes, enhanced anthesis and fruit ripening by about 12 days and significantly increased the yield by 90 per cent without affecting the berry size, compared to the control or 100 ppm while 1000, 2000 or 4000 ppm caused phytotoxicity. Daminozide, 2000 ppm, was the most effective when applied to 30cm high plants, it enhanced anthesis and fruit ripening by 20 days, increased the yield by 98 percent, however it decreased fruit size by 7 per cent.
