Rumex confertus - an expansive weed found in the Fordon valley

Rumex confertus was originally native to Eastern Europe and Western Asia. In Poland it was first reported in the last century and the present century has witnessed its gradual expansion westwards. In the Fordon Valley Rumex confertus occurs frequently and in great numbers in various anthropogenic habitats (fields, roads, housing estates). It also penetrates natural and seminatural meadow, forest and shrubbery communities, where its massive growth has affected the character of phytocoenosis. As for meadows and pastures the alternation has resulted even in the creation of wasteland. Field investigations have shown that Rumex confertus is now a permanent anthropophyte in the Fordon Valley flora
