Content of heavy metals in forest litter, soil and mosses in the vicinity of Warsaw

The total content of Zn, Pb, Cu, Mn, Ni and Co in forest litter was studied in the soils and mosses collected in the forests located at the suburbs of Warsaw. The results obtained suggests heavy loads of accumulation of Zn, Pb, Cu and Cd in the litter and moss layer as a consequence of both industrial and communication pollution. The northern suburban forests are more heavily polluted with Zn, Pb, Cu and Cd in comparison with the forest complexes bordering with Warsaw agglomeration from the south-east
