Shearing resistance of the maize kernels

Shearing tests were carried out on the maize kernels of moisture content ranging from 14.2 to 35.6%. Shearing force, the work of cutting and edge compression as well as real and final cutting work were determined. Different geometry of blade was studied in this experiment. Negative effects of the moisture content on shearing force and work of cutting were represented by the exponential and linear functions, respectively. The lowest value of shearing force was found at cutting with a blade of 30 deg angle of edge tilt. However, the cutting with a blade of 40 deg knife edge inclination needed the lowest energy
