Comparison of methods to define the infection rate of honey bee colonies with chalkbrood

Four methods of assessing the infection level were compared: I - number of cells with mummified larvae in all brood combs; II - number of mummies on the botton inserts; III - number of mummies in the dead bee traps; IV - total sum of mummies obtained by methods II and III. Results obtained by all methods are reliable. The number of mummies found on the bottom inserts and in the dead bee traps characterizes very well the chalkbrood infestation level. However, weekly counts of visible mummies in brood combs over the period of at least 2 or 3 weeks is much simpler and just as accurate
