Touchdown is a non-selective herbicide for control of virtually all annual and perennial weeds. It is absorbed through leaves and stems of treated plants and then systemically (acropetal and basipetal movement) translocated throughout the plant and causing death of both foliage and roots. Touchdown contains the novel trimesium salt of glyphosate acid sulfosate enhanced by a unique wetter system, improving retention on the leaf, wetting and penetration. As a result, herbicidal activity and reliability improves, compared with ordinary glyphosate products. Glyphosate acid is the biotically active herbicidal agent of sulfosate. Sulfosate is the most soluble of all glyphosate salts currently used. Trimesium cation in sulfosate enhances herbicidal activity of glyphosate acid, probably through its ability to improve uptake into the plant. Uptake of sulfosate into leaf is more rapid than with ordinary glyphosates. This offers advantages of rainfastness and greater robustness of performance. Touchdown contains the unique adjuvant alkylpolyglucoside (APG) which is well suited to provide maximum spray droplet retention, optimal spreading of deposit, staying together of an adjuvant and sulfosate in a homogenous phase on the leaf surface, strong absorbtion of the moisture, maximizing phloem loading and transport, prevention of initial damage to cuticle and membranes (typical for other adjuvants and ordinary glyphosate based products) and contribution to improved rainfastness and efficacy. Touchdown is a highly versatile herbicide and can be used for stubble treatment, as a pre-harvest treatment in cereals, in orchards and vineyards, on railroads, on non crop land and more.
