In the paper interactions between animal welfare and immunological response are discussed. Serial pathogenic and non pathogenic immune challenges influence on activation of immune system throughout production. Because of the diversion of nutrients away from in support of immune related processes, acute phase response is considered a major obstacle to animals achieving their potential for growth. Acute phase proteins concentration makes the useful tool to asses welfare status of commercially reared food animals
