Contributions of national forest monitoring systems to a national set of criteria and indicators for sustainable forest management in Germany

The paper presents the results of a preliminary evaluation of the suitability of pan-European criteria and indicators to describe sustainable forest management on national scale in Germany. Selected indicators are evaluated according to their significance and propopals for improvements are given. Demands on additional indicators are formulated and the availability of realiable data is evaluated. Some demands on data processing methods and methodological harmonization as well as for capacity building are derived.
