Development of sulphur-nutrition in the forests of North-East Germany for 1985-2000

The paper describes the development of sulphur contents in needles and leaves of forest trees on sites in North-East-Germany for 1985-2000. During the years after 1992/94 in regions with formerly high SO2-emissions S-content in leaves and needles decreased rapidly. But also in regions with lower S-inputs S-concentrations decreased slightly. Therefore in the next years all forest stands in NE-Germany will show a "normal" S-nutrition. In regions with high N-inputs possible threats of insufficient S-nutrient are discussed.
