2001
Teusan, A. | Teusan, S.M.
The paper describes: -the efforts of the Romanian government to establish contacts with the European Union and especially Germany; -the cultural and historical development in the Danube-Carpathian region since the neolithicum; -the actual ecological importance of the Danubian delta and the Carpathian virgin forests, which was the subject of an international FORUM on 29/30 May 2001 in Bucharest; -the secular struggle of Romanian foresters against desertification, especially in the Romanian plain, where rain is a minimum factor. There the annual precipitation often varies between 500 and 250 mm; -the positives results achieved by windbreak plantations; -the advancing soil degradation (about 1/3) in the country, especially in the mountainous regions; -the new ten-years reconstruction programme (windbreak plantations and afforestations); the restitution of private woodlands, nationalized 1948 by the communist government.
