Few systematic studies have been performed to date on the pathology of dromedaries, but over 800 observations have been carried out on slaughterhouse and on army animals. They concern parasitism (52 per cent), infections (42 per cent), affection following surgery (4 per cent) and nutritional diseases (2 per cent). The main parasitic diseases affect the digestive tract, and more rarely the respiratory and circulatory systems. Trypanosomiasis is also very important and it is worth mentioning scabies and ticks. Dromedaries are sensitive to most maladies that affect ruminants. Nutritional diseases are rather of mineral than of vitamin origin. At present, many international programs are being carried out with the aid of the Epizootic International Office.
