Hercinothrips femoralis (Reuter) also recorded in Slovenia
2002
Trdan, S. (Ljubljana Univ. (Slovenia). Biotechnical Fac., Agronomy Dept.)
Article presents the facts about Hercinothrips femoralis (Reuter), recorded in Slovenia for the first time. In contrast to the majority of thrips, found in Slovenia so far (altogether 107 species), this new species belongs to thrips that can damage cultivated plants. Although its economic importance is smaller than with western flower thrips (Frankliniella occidentalis SPergande]) an attention should be focused on Hercinothrips femoralis (Reuter), as it is, just like the first one, a large polyphagous. In this article the important morphological characters of Hercinothrips femoralis (Reuter), its systematics, geographical distribution, hosts, bionomics, damage on cultivated plants and the estimation of its (potential) economic importance in Slovenia are presented.
